Mahkatop — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to visit Abu Dhabi on July 15-16, 2024, to discuss the investment interest of Mohamed Ali Rashed Alabbar from Emaar Properties in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) project.
According to Basuki Hadimuljono, Acting Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN), the visit aims to follow up on the investment commitment previously expressed by Ali Rashed Alabbar.
“He [President Jokowi] will be in Abu Dhabi on July 15 and July 16, 2024, to follow up on Ali Rashed Alabbar’s visit to IKN,” said Basuki Hadimuljono in his statement at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing office on Monday (8/7/2024).
Ali Rashed Alabbar, the head of Emaar Properties, has expressed interest in building a financial center in IKN, planned to resemble Jakarta’s Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD).
Basuki also added that details on whether President Jokowi’s visit will mark the signing of an investment commitment or just further discussions are still uncertain. Previously, Jokowi indicated that Alabbar has committed to making substantial investments in IKN.
“He [Alabbar] has committed directly, but I won’t mention the figure because it hasn’t been signed yet. It’s substantial, though, and we plan to sign, God willing, in July in Abu Dhabi or Dubai,” explained Jokowi.
On May 26, 2024, Mohamed Ali Rashed Alabbar, along with State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, visited IKN, showing their initial interest in the project. (*)
