Mahkatop — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the plan to establish an emergency hospital to treat Palestinian children injured in the ongoing war between Tel Aviv and the Gaza Strip, which has lasted for ten months.
Netanyahu’s office announced that the Prime Minister does not approve the establishment of a hospital for Gaza residents in Israeli territory.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s office stated that the decision follows the recommendation of the head of the defense department to transfer patients from the Gaza Strip to a third country via Israel. This decision is seen as a reversal from Gallant’s announcement two days earlier approving the establishment of the hospital.
According to Hebrew Channel 12, the decision was made due to the halt in patient evacuations through the Rafah border between Gaza and Egypt since May 7, when Israeli forces took control of the border and closed it for evacuations and humanitarian aid deliveries. Gallant’s office explained that this closure is temporary until a permanent mechanism is found to handle the injured children.
Since October 7, 2023, the conflict between Israel and Gaza has resulted in over 128,000 Palestinians being killed or injured, with the majority being children and women. Additionally, more than 10,000 people are reported missing amidst widespread destruction and famine. (*)
