Mahkatop — The Director of Correctional Security and Intelligence (Dir Pamintel), Brigadier General Teguh Yuswardhie, held a technical strengthening activity at the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in North Sumatra on Monday, July 8, 2024.
This event took place in the Pengayoman Hall of Medan Class I Penitentiary and aimed to enhance the effectiveness of security and intelligence in Correctional Technical Implementation Units (UPT) in North Sumatra.
The Head of the North Sumatra Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Anak Agung Gde, represented by the Head of the Division of Guidance, Counseling, and Information Technology, Soetopo Berutu, welcomed Brigadier General Teguh Yuswardhie. They hoped this activity would provide additional knowledge for the heads of Correctional UPTs and their staff in facing challenges in the fields of security and intelligence.
The main presentation was delivered by the Head of Medan Class I Penitentiary, Maju Amintas Siburian, who explained the general condition of the penitentiary and the security and intelligence strategies implemented, including the challenges faced in early detection of security disturbances.
In his directive, Brigadier General Teguh Yuswardhie emphasized the importance of quick and comprehensive reporting and resolution of issues. “Report, resolve, and identify the causes of problems and incidents to prevent recurrence,” he said.
Brigadier General Teguh also encouraged the heads of Correctional UPTs to report every incident, no matter how small, to their immediate superiors and to conduct continuous monitoring and evaluation. “By reporting, we have already solved half of the problem, and this can reduce the potential for security and order disturbances,” he added.
Furthermore, Brigadier General Teguh Yuswardhie highlighted the strategic role of intelligence in preventing security and order disturbances in penitentiaries and detention centers. “Strengthen the intelligence function. If intelligence runs well, security incidents can be minimized,” he stressed.
Closing his directive, Brigadier General Teguh reminded the attendees about the three keys to advancing the correctional system and the fundamental principles of effective penitentiary security. “The three keys to progress are early detection of security disturbances, eradication of drugs, and synergy with law enforcement agencies. Returning to the fundamental principles of security is a crucial step,” he concluded.
This activity was attended in person by 14 Medan Correctional UPTs and their heads, and was followed virtually by the heads of North Sumatra Regional Office Correctional UPTs via the Zoom platform. (*)
