Mahkatop — London, Prime Minister-elect Keir Starmer has pledged to usher in a period of “national renewal” in the UK, following the Labour Party’s victory over the ruling Conservative Party in the general election.
“Today we begin the next chapter – embarking on a mission of change, a mission of national renewal, and starting to rebuild our country,” Starmer said in his victory speech in London after his party secured a majority in parliament, as reported by AFP news agency on Friday (7/5/2024).
The Labour Party of Britain clinched power after winning the general election in the country, surpassing the threshold of 326 seats to secure a majority in the House of Commons.
“A mandate like this comes with great responsibility,” said Labour leader Keir Starmer to his supporters in London, shortly after the decisive victory was announced.
British leader Rishi Sunak acknowledged his defeat in this election. “I take full responsibility for this defeat.”
“Today, power will transfer peacefully and orderly with goodwill on all sides,” said Sunak, after his Conservative party suffered a historic defeat to the Labour Party.
