Mahkatop — Billionaire Elon Musk is reportedly so committed to his vision of establishing a colony on Mars that he has offered to donate his sperm for this purpose. This revelation comes from a recent article by The New York Times, based on more than 20 interviews and internal SpaceX documents.
According to the report, Musk has quietly directed SpaceX employees to investigate the details of how a Mars colony would operate. Specialized teams have been formed to focus on various aspects of colonization, including dome habitats, space suits, and reproduction. Two anonymous sources confirmed to the Times that Musk has donated his sperm.
Musk, who has long touted Mars settlement as his life’s primary ambition, emphasizes the importance of making humanity a multi-planetary species to avoid extinction from catastrophic events such as asteroid impacts. Additionally, Musk has voiced concerns about population decline, which he refers to as “the greatest threat to civilization,” prompting him to father many children.
Research on space reproduction is still in its early stages. Adam Watkins, a professor of reproductive biology at the University of Nottingham, stated that freeze-dried sperm can be effectively sent to enclosed spaces. However, numerous challenges need to be addressed due to the harsh conditions in space, such as reduced gravity and high radiation exposure.
Dr. Kris Lehnhardt, who leads research on medical systems for space exploration at NASA, mentioned that it is currently unknown whether someone can become pregnant in space. Further research is required to understand the possibilities and risks of human reproduction on the red planet.(*)
