Mahkatop — AirAsia will commence direct international flights between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, starting from September 3, 2024.
This new route will operate three times a week, marking AirAsia Malaysia’s (flight code AK) inaugural flight to Labuan Bajo.
Veranita Yosephine, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, welcomed this initiative, highlighting the significant tourism and economic potential between these two distinct destinations across countries.
She emphasized that this new connectivity will facilitate travel for tourists between Labuan Bajo, renowned for Komodo National Park, and Kuala Lumpur, featuring the Petronas Twin Towers.
“The blend of Malay, Indian, Chinese, and Arab cultures creates a unique cultural mosaic in both cities,” Veranita said. “Air connectivity is a crucial pillar in strengthening international relations and promoting tourism potential.”
Currently, AirAsia Malaysia operates 13 routes to Indonesia from Kuala Lumpur, including destinations such as Jakarta, Denpasar, Medan, and Surabaya, as well as from Penang to Jakarta and Medan.
This move by AirAsia underscores its strategic expansion of regional flight networks and support for cross-border tourism growth. (*)
